Pune, Feb 6: Indian eased past New Zealand 4-1 in the Asia/Oceania Group I tie in Davis Cup to advance to the second round where they will face Uzbekistan.

Davis Cup: India beat New Zealand 4-1

Both Yuki Bhambri and Ramkumar Ramanathan won their respective singles matches but veteran Indian tennis player Leanders Paes and his partner Vishnu Vardhan lost their doubles encounter to gift New Zealand a consolation win from the tie.

On Day 1, Yuki Bhambri convincingly defeated New Zealand's Finn Tearney 6-4 6-4 6-3 while Ramkumar Ramanathan outplayed his opponent Jose Statham 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 to double India's lead.

The second day proved to be a bad one for India as New Zealand came back into the match with a win in the doubles match. 

Artem Sitak and Michael Venus fought hard to beat Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan 3-6 6-3 7-6 (8-6) 6-3.

On Day 3, Ramkumar settled the match once and for all winning his reverse fixture and later that day, Bhambri put the cherry on the cake with his win.
