Goa, Aug 23: Indian Super League side FC Goa have successfully signed former Brazil captain and star defender Lucio as their marquee player for the upcoming 2016/17 season.

Lucio, 38, had played 14 games in total for FC Goa last season and was instrumental in guiding the team to their maiden ISL final.

He was rocksolid in the backline of Zico's team forming a firmidable partnership with Gregory Arnolin. Lucio's arrival yet again will surely bolster the FC Goa squad.

According to reports, the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan defender is the second highest paid player in this year's ISL. The Brazilian had offers from Germany as well but he being Zico's primary target, FC Goa went all guns blazing.

Lucio had played for Brazil in 105 international games from 2000-2011. He had captained the Brazil national team in 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.

He has won the UEFA Champions League with Inter Milan in 2009-10 season and finished second in the same competition in 2001-02 with Bayer Leverkusen. The defender was a member of the FIFA FIF Pro XI team in 2010.
