Last night the FC Barcelona scripted history as his brilliance on the pitch guided Brazil to their maiden gold medal in Olympic football. Brazil defeated Germany in the final, 5-4 via penalty shootout.
What other legendary Brazilian footballers of yesteryears could not do, the 24-year-old footballer achieved leading his national team from the front.
But just after the triumph over Germany, Neymar made a shocking revelation. He said that he will step down as the captain of the Brazil national team.
Speaking to TV Globo, the Brazilian said: "I don't take it as a pressure, it is you (the press) who say it. But today, as a champion, I am giving (up) the captain's armband. I was glad to receive it, I have honored it, but today I am (leaving it). Tite can choose another captain."
Neymar was given the captain's armband in 2014 after the FIFA World Cup by the then Brazil manager Dunga.
Neymar was instrumental as a Brazil captain. After missing out of Copa America 2016, Neymar focused on teh Olympics and has achieved what he wanted.
