As we know, Mourinho is not very fond of Mata from the latter's Chelsea days. After the Portuguese joined Chelsea FC as their manager in 2013, he discarded Juan Mata from his squad and within six months of his tenure, he had sold the Spaniard to the Red Devils during the winter transfer window.
Now that Mourinho is in charge of Manchester United Juan Mata's future at the club looks blurred. Although, a few days back the manager had claimed that Juan Mata will be retained at the club, Mourinho now has come up with a bizarre warning for Mata.
According to reports, Jose Mourinho has told Mata that he will not be a regular in his starting XI and the midfielder has to prove his worth in order to break in. Apparently Mata will feature in one game in three!
The rule seems a little weird to us fans and it will definitely not please the 28-year-old who is at the pinnacle of his career right now. But as it seems, the midfielder is determined to prove his worth to the boss.
Juan Mata has been included in the Manchester United squad which has traveled to China for the pre-season friendly games.
Manchester United take on Borussia Dortmund in the opening game followed by rivals Manchester City. Mata was included in their first friendly game against Wigan Athletic, which the Red Devils comfortably won 2-0. Mata had an assist against his name in that match.
