The final contest between Atletico de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters tomorrow (December 20) will bring the curtain down on the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament.
At Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, Kolkata and Kerala will fight it out to become the league's first ever champions. While it is a football match on the pitch, off it, fans have dubbed this exchange as the one between cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
Tendulkar, co-owns Kerala while Ganguly is one of the owners of Kolkata. The pair has had many memorable partnerships on a cricket field during their playing days for India but now they will be cheering different teams, from the stands.
While Tendulkar and Ganguly know it is just a game of football and will be hoping that the best team wins, Indian fans are adding cricket angle to soccer.
Many have already been debating about "Sachin Vs Sourav" match-up, on social media. There are also those who are criticising them for making it a cricket contest between two retired individuals rather than focusing on football and the teams.
"Sachin Vs Sourav" was trending on Twitter on Thursday (December 18). There were plenty of tweets, both for and against.
But come tomorrow, 7 PM IST, both Kolkata and Kerala players will be keen on winning the big prize while "Sachin Vs Sourav" discussions take a backseat.
It is important to keep to football than make it a cricket-related battle.
