Today, India's ace tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi, the founder of the league, announced that Federer will be playing for the Indian Aces in the four-country based league.
Indian Aces team, however, will be without Rafael Nadal, who has pulled out due to health reasons, according to Bhupathi.
Indian Aces will have Federer, Pete Sampras, Gael Monfils, Rohan Bopanna, Ana Ivanovic and Saina Mirza.
India (Indian Aces), United Arab Emirates (UAE Royals), Singapore (Singapore Slammers) and Philippines (Manila Mavericks) are the countries that will participate in this new league.
Some of the big names in tennis are part of this league. Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray will be seen in action.
The International Premier Tennis League brings together current champions, tennis legends and upcoming talent in a format that's never been seen before. Created to fulfill the increasing demand for top-level tennis in Asia, it's the first city-based professional league in the world, played across four countries, according to the organisers.
"From 28th November to 13th December 2014, the teams will play a total of 24 matches in a round robin format to determine the inaugural IPTL League Champion. Modelled after successful sports franchise concepts, the IPTL combines world-class sports and entertainment in a format that keeps both, spectators and TV viewers completely engrossed," the organisers said on their website.
The India leg of matches will be held from December 6 to 8. The league begins in Manila, Philippines on November 28 (November 28 to 30).
