The Indian, who is the top seeded in the event, registered a comfortable first round win over a qualifier, again a Mexican Alfredo Avila 11-2 11-7 11-3.

Salazar, who had beaten an eighth-seeded player, proved a tough customer. Showing greater firepower around the court, the Mexican had the Indian in knots.

However, Ghosal showed a lot of resilience to shut out his rival. Ghosal will take on third-seed Omar Adel Meguid of Egypt next.
