Indian Karate Kid making waves in America

Eight-year-old Shanjit Srinivasan has bagged several honours in martial arts and baseball

Bengaluru, July 25: Shanjit Srinivasan is not just a neighbourhood eight-year-old that you are familiar with. He's a kid with several interests and multi-faceted talent - martial arts, baseball and science.

For starters, he is a silver medalist in Board Breaking in National TKD Championship 2017 (8 to 9 years old, Blue belt division), and a member of the home and travel baseball team of the region in his age category.

"Shanjit, a student of the US government school in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, is very disciplined in his personal life and has been learning baseball and taekwondo from the age of five. He has already bagged several trophies and honours in both the events," said Subathra Narayanan, Shanjit's mother.

Going back to the initial days, Subathra said her son started learning the martial art form at White Tiger Martial Arts School. "He has achieved Best of Best Student and Best of Best Board Breaking Awards. He participated in so many open competitions in Illinois. He is a 1st DAN Black Belter. This year he participated in state level competition and got a bronze," she said.

Subathra said the field of competition was tough during the Board Breaking event. "Yes, competition was tough. He broke 30 boards within 3 minutes using hand and kick techniques. Ho got silver medal and is working hard to achieve more,' she said.

However, Subathra said he son's ambition to become a scientist and added his familuy will support all his ventures. "Shanjit wants to become a scientist and also wish to continue his journey in sports. We support and encourage him from the bottom of our hearts to fulfill his dreams," she said.
