The report cited senior German footballer Lukas Podolski as saying about the team's resolve.

The team showed it was bent to deliver on its promise after it handed Portugal a crushing 4-0 defeat in the opening game in Salvador on Monday. Thomas Muller scored a hat-trick against a 10-men Portugal which looked far from impressive in the match.

The team expressed its happiness over the release of Schumacher, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, in the hours leading to the clash with Portugal. Schumacher was badly injured while skiing in the Alps in December last year and went to coma. He was removed from Grenoble to the University Hospital of the Canton of Vaud, in Lausanne, on Monday.

A keen follower of football and a supporter of Köln, Schumacher even played for a local side before his accident.
