UCL: Game Week 5 - Day 1 - Roundup, results

Sporting Lisbon 1-2 Real Madrid

The La Liga leaders took on Premeira Division giants Sporting Lisbon at Lisbon. It also marked the homecoming of local hero Cristiano Ronaldo.

It was indeed an emotional moment for the Portuguese superstar who started his career at this very club. Sporting fans also welcomed their hero with great warmth irrespective of the fact that their team lost 1-2 against the giants.

Defender Raphael Varane scored the opening goal of the match in the 29th minute to earn a much-needed lead for Real Madrid.

The home side restored parity in the 80th minute of the match when Adrien Silva scored an important goal.

But Real had other plans as Karim Benzema netted the winning goal in the 87th minute to clinch all three points away from home and confirming their place in the last 16 of the competition.


Borussia Dortmund 8-4 Legia Warsaw

Borussia Dortmund demolished Polish side Legia Warsaw in an enthralling encounter at the Signal Iduna Park stadium.

A total of 12 goals were scored in the match which will surely go down the history books of the competition.

Marco Reus came back to the side after injury and boy what a comeback it was! The German sensation scored a hat-trick to guide his side to glory.


Leicester City 2-1 Club Brugge

After writing a fairytale last season in the English Premier League, Leicester City have now added one more feat beside their name as they qualify for the round of 16 stage of the competition unbeaten in their maiden appearance.

The Foxes' unbeaten run continued in the Champions League as they beat Club Brugge 2-1 thanks to Shinji Okazaki and Riyad Mahrez's strikes. They have now 13 points from 5 matches.


AS Monaco 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur become first English Premier League side to crash out of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco picked up a 2-1 win over the Spurs thus eliminating the English side from the Champions League.

Djibril Sidibe and Thomas Lemar scored for the home side while, Harry Kane scored the solitary goal for Tottenham.
