Bengaluru, Oct 30: Sameehg Doutie is now probably the most important footballer in Atletico De Kolkata (ATK). Playing in the midfield he actually guides the team’s attacks as well as controls possession in the central midfield.
This South African midfielder, who had represented his country in the under-20 and under-23 level, was roped in by ATK’s last season’s coach Antonio Habas.
And following the crucial away match victory against North East United FC ATK, being top of the League table, the Kolkata team seems very spirited.
ATK is going to face FC Pune City in its next away match which means Doutie will be facing Antonio Habas, the man whom this South African player called his mentor last year.
But on Saturday, Doutie when asked about facing his coach in the next match, looked annoyed. He said, “I cannot talk anything about Habas. He is the coach of Pune City.”
The Pune side is struggling at the bottom of the League table. Still Doutie felt it is going to be a tough match for them.
He said, “They are staying in the bottom of the table. But winning one or two consecutive matches they can easily come up. So we should not be complacent against the team which is now at the bottom in the League table.”
South Africa is a country where cricket is dominated. Doutie did not hesitate to inform he never had picked up a cricket bat.
He smilingly said, “My mom told me that I used to kick ball when I was five or six years old. And as I am the only son of my mother, I always used to get a lot of encouragement from mom and grandmother.”
The 27-year old midfielder looked highly respectful on his mate, the marquee footballer of ATK, Eldier Poschiga.
Douttie said, “Playing beside a world class striker has fulfilled my dream. If Poschiga is fit then he will be the best striker in this league.”
