Pele gives his verdict on Lionel Messi Vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate

Bengaluru, Sep 18: Legendary footballer and former Brazil international Pele has given his verdict on the everlasting debate of who is better between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Brazilian star said that Argentine international and FC Barcelona's star player Lionel Messi is by far the best player among the current crop of footballers.

Addressing the media in an event, 'An evening with Pele', the Brazilian phenom said: "I could mention some names but what has happened in the last 10 to 15 years, I think Messi is the player who was the most consistent all those years, no doubt.

"We have had a lot of good players. Then Cristiano Ronaldo came late but it is different because Messi is the more organised, he scores goals.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is like the Ronaldo from Brazil, he is a good scorer no doubt, but to me as a player it is Messi."

The La Liga champions recently defeated Celtic 7-0 in a UEFA Champions League group stage. Messi scored a hat-trick. It was the Argentine star's 6th Champions League hat-trick beating rival Ronaldo's record.

The other scorers from the game where Luis Suarez (2), Neymar and Andres Iniesta.

Pele further spoke about Brazil's current performance and that he considers Liverpool attacker Phillip Coutinho as one of the most important players in their squad.

He added: "Some people joked that Brazil didn't win because they didn't have Coutinho in the team. He was one of the well-known players.

"Of course we have a lot of players in Europe but to me Coutinho was one of the best players who was supposed to be in the national team."
