Hernandez made his name first known worldwide with Manchester United where he spent four seasons and scored 59 goals in 156 appearances, winning two Premier league titles.

But, he left Old Trafford in August 2015 for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in search of regular football, which he did get there that also improved his goal scoring ability, where he netted 39 times in 76 matches.

The 29-year-old only had a year left on his Leverkusen contract and the Hammers are believed to have triggered the release clause in the Mexican international's contract which was only £13 million.

A club statement further elaborated the matter and it said: "West Ham United and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed terms for the transfer of Javier Hernandez to London Stadium.

"The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker will fly to London in the coming days to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical with the Hammers."

Hernandez's move comes just days after Manchester City keeper Joe Hart joined West Ham on a season-long loan. The Mexican all-time top scorer's addition will be the third major signing for them after Zabaleta and Hart.

They are also close to finalising a deal for Marko Arnautovic after agreeing to a £24m fee with Stoke City and the Austrian winger will reportedly have a medical and discuss personal terms in the coming days with the Hammers.

Manager Slaven Bilic is eager to make a statement in the upcoming season after finishing 11th last term and with the signing of a proven goal-scorer with previous PL experience Chicharito at his helm, the Hammers can fix their major issue of last season, the goal drought.
