If Bengaluru FC win the final match, they will not only be the first Indian team to win such a prestigious championship but will also receive a colossal amount of USD 1 million prize money.
Bhaichung said: “Bengaluru FC has already created history by reaching the AFC Cup final and it is not only their history. Rather it for the whole country.”
When asked whether he had the opportunity to talk to Bengaluru FC skipper before their departure for Doha, Bhaichung said: “Yes, we talked over the phone a couple of days back. And as his friend, and former teammate I asked him just to relax mentally before the match and motivate the team’s other footballers in a similar way.”
Air Force is the oldest club of Iraq. And it has a few top class footballers currently. Commenting on Bengaluru’s chances, the ace Indian striker explained: “Sunil himself has been in excellent form, scoring in the team’s last couple of matches in the ongoing AFC Cup.
"At the same time, Sunil has been leading his teammates perfectly on the field also. But I feel the key strength in Bengaluru FC team lies in its midfielder Eugeneson Lyngdoh.
"He is so agile that he takes a huge amount of workload. He can move up front as well as fall back fast. His consistency in falling back to help the defense will be setting the tone of Bengaluru’s game. But I am looking forward to their show.”
Bhaichung also lamented for being able to play in the AFC Cup final by saying: “We won Asian Cup in 2003. But I always regret for playing in AFC Cup final and that is why my hearty wishes to Sunil Chettri for this match.”
