The 22-year-old played a major role in the ambitious club's shock second-placed finish and Leipzig are desperate to hold onto their best player.

The Bundesliga side confirmed that they had turned down the Reds' latest bid on Wednesday (July 19), claiming that Keita is not for sale at any price.

However, with the 22-year-old eager to make the move to Merseyside this summer, Liverpool still have faint hopes of securing a deal.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are debating whether to return with an improved offer for Keita, with this set to be worth over £70 million. It is said that Leipzig are holding firm in their stance, however, leaving Liverpool required to call their bluff.

It's been made no secret that Leipzig dont want to sell nor do they need to, although it remains to be seen how their stance would be impacted were Liverpool to meet the reported asking price.

With reports claiming that the player desperately wanting a move to Anfield, they might have a second thought on their stance.

Keita has everything it takes to make a major impact at Anfield. He is a workhorse with bags of energy and is also known for his creativity which makes him an ideal player in Jurgen's Klopp's 4-3-3 system.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have received a major boost in their pursuit for another summer target Virgil van Dijk of Southampton as manager Mauricio Pellegrino openly admitted that the players wants a move and has been forced to train on his own.
