India nominated for AFC member association award

The award is given to a member association in recognition of its professional administration and governance as well as its exceptional contribution to the development and promotion of the game.

New Delhi, Nov 30: India has been nominated for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Association (Developing) Award of the Year along with Vietnam and Malaysia.

The results of the nominations will be announced at the AFC Awards Night in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, December 1, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said in a release on Wednesday, November 30.

The award is given to a member association in recognition of its professional administration and governance as well as its exceptional contribution to the development and promotion of the game at all levels within the country.

This includes grassroots and youth development work, women's football development and social responsibility.

The AIFF, according to a statement, conducted 29 AFC courses inclusive of two AFC "A" license courses, five AFC "B" license courses, 20 AFC "C" license courses and two AFC goalkeeping Level 1 courses. Around 210 coaches became AFC certified through these courses.

The AIFF also said out of the 40 academies which applied for accreditation to play in the U-16 and U-18 youth leagues of the AIFF, 26 have passed scrutiny.
