I-League: East Bengal ease past Mumbai FC 2-0 to top table

New Delhi, Feb 1: East Bengal ease past Mumbai FC 2-0 to remain at the top of the league table and maintain their unbeaten run in the I-League 2017.

Trinidad and Tobago international Willis Deon Plaza scored 2 quick goals in the 10th and 17th minute to seal yet another crucial win for the Red and Gold.

East Bengal dominated proceedings from the very first minute and kept on pressing on the Mumbai FC goal.

It took just 10 minutes for Willis Plaza to break the deadlock. Rahul Bheke floated a cross inside the penalty box targeting Plaza. The Trinidad and Tobago striker took charge of the well and netted in.

The second goal came in within 7 minutes when Lalrindika Ralte's cross was intercepted brilliantly by Plaza mid-air inside the box. The striker dodged past two defenders brilliantly and found the back of the net comfortably.

Mumbai FC thereafter came back into the game made some effort of troubling the home side.

The second half proved to be a boring one where neither of the teams showed positive intent, especially East Bengal.

Mumbai FC twice found the back of the net but both the times the goal were disallowed due to off-side.

East Bengal remain unbeaten after 6 rounds in the I-League and have 16 points.
