FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be hosted in India from October 6 to October 28, 2017

FIFA have confirmed the dates of U-17 World Cup. The tournament will be held in six venues in India from October 6 to October 28 2017.

Bengaluru, Oct 25: FIFA have officially announced the date of the FIFA U-17 World Cup which is due to happen in India in 2017.

The tournament will be held from October 6 to October 27. Six venues have already been ratified by FIFA, Kochi, Mumbai, Goa, Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata.

A 13-member FIFA delegation is in India right now to take a final glimpse at the all the venues. After going round the country the team have reached Kolkata and have given their clearance to the venue.

At Kolkata, addressing the media, the tournament director Javier Ceppi said: "We are very happy to complete the process of ratification of venues for the FIFA U-17 World Cup with Kolkata.

"We are extremely appreciative of the support that the Government of West Bengal has given us right from the start.

"The WC has taken its rightful place here as the most important football event that this football crazy state has ever hosted."

Even manager MS Marion said: "The state of West Bengal has shown tremendous enthusiasm in getting this venue ready and we are impressed.

"The association of Football of this state goes back to the 19th century and we are happy to announce it as a FIFA U-17 World Cup venue"

Project Director Joy Bhattacharjya added: "This WC has the potential of changing Indian football and we need everyone's support to make it happen."

India are participating for the first time in the history of the tournament. 24 teams from 6 confederations will take part in the World Cup.

So far Only 5 teams, including hosts India, have qualified for the final round. Iran, Iraq, North Korea and Japan have qualified from AFC. The tournament draw will be held on July 7, 2017.

Nigeria are the most successful team in the history of the tournament. They are also the defending champions. The tournament is held every 2 years.
