Their only top acquisition this summer has been the signing of Mohamed Salah from AS Roma but on the other hand, the Reds have been left frustrated in their pursuit for both their top targets Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk.

While hopes of Liverpool managing to sign midfield dynamo Naby Keita is becoming bleaker and bleaker with passing time, their own midfield general Emre Can's contract situation will add further worry to the fans.

Yesterday, a number of English publications claimed that Juventus have agreed a deal in principle with the German midfielder on personal terms.

The Germany international has been targeted by the Serie A giants to help strengthen their midfield. Chelsea's Nemanja Matic is also wanted by Max Allegri, but it appears progress has been made in discussions for Can.

Jurgen Klopp cannot necessarily guarantee the 23-year-old a starting spot next season, with captain Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum preferred in the middle.

However, with Champions League football returning to Anfield and a more clogged schedule awaiting, Liverpool are reluctant to lose Can.

The Reds are still looking to tie him down to a new deal, with his current contract expiring in 2018 and Klopp is confident that Can will remain at Anfield.

"You can imagine we're involved in talks and we all feel good and confident in this moment," Klopp told the Liverpool Echo.

"That means they're not the worst talks but until anything is done or signed there's nothing to say.

"Emre is a very important player for us. We don't want to sell or lose players who are in our first line-up or close to it.

"Emre is certainly one of them. We want to keep him and we're having good talks."
