The Brazilian international believes that rivals Arsenal have made one of the signings of the summer with the purchase of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a club record £52 million.

The Chelsea defender is fully aware of the striker's goalscoring abilities, having played against him in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint Germain between 2014-16.

Lacazette scored 100 goals in 203 appearances in the French top flight, although he never found the net against PSG when Luiz was playing for them.

The Brazil international is set to face Lacazette for the first time in a Chelsea shirt today (July 22), when the Blues play Arsenal in a pre-season friendly at the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing and Luiz was talking to the media ahead of the much-anticipated friendly.

Luiz told the media: “Lacazette is a top player, top striker. I had many opportunities to play against him in France and he was always difficult. Arsenal did well to take him."

“What makes him so good? He has the timing to go into the space, he finishes well, he can score many goals, he can assist. So he is a top-level player."

Luiz impressed during his first season back at Chelsea last term helping the Blues clinch the title but has admitted that he will relish the opportunity of playing against top players like Lacazette on a weekly basis.

He added: “Of course it [playing against Lacazette] motivates me.

“But it's not just Lacazette, it's every game we play against top players, top managers, top stadiums, top crowds, top cities, top clubs."
