Madrid, July 24: The football world has been stunned by the reports of Brazilian superstar Neymar closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

It is being strongly claimed that Neymar has agreed a contract with the French capital club which will see him earn a mammoth €30m (£26.6m) a year.

PSG are willing to activate Neymar's €222 million (£197m) release clause, which means that Barcelona would be powerless to prevent the transfer, and the decision now rests with the Brazil forward and his father, who have held talks with the French club's sporting director Antero Henrique this week.

However, Neymar's Real Madrid counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly against the idea of the superstar leaving Barcelona for PSG and has supposedly contacted the 25-year-old to snub the French giants as that would be a step-down in his career.

The Real Madrid ace is then claimed to have urged the Brazilian to secure a move to Manchester United if he was really desperate to quit the Nou Camp.

Real Madrid ace Ronaldo and Neymar are close friends away from their playing rivalry, having developed a relationship on the back of both being sponsored by Nike.

And Spanish title Diariogol have reported the two superstars have been in close contact discussing Neymar's proposed £195million move to PSG.

They claim Ronaldo has sent a series of WhatsApp messages warning the 25-year-old against swapping La Liga for Ligue 1.

PSG have promised to pay the forward £500,000-a-week to move to Paris - with the club planning to use his signing to market themselves around the world.

But it is claimed Ronaldo has told Neymar he would be taking a backward step by moving to a lesser league and a smaller club.

Manchester United has also been touted as a potential destination for Neymar, with the Red Devils showing in recent transfer windows that they are financially strong in securing deals for midfielder Paul Pogba and striker Romelu Lukaku.

Ronaldo reportedly contacted Neymar through WhatsApp, telling the 25-year-old he would be dropping down a number of levels in order to play for PSG, whose record in Europe is incomparable to Barcelona's.
