Utpal Ganguly the secretary of Indian Football Association (IFA) has offered Shankar a job in his own company after the goalkeeper steered Bengal to the final of ongoing Santosh Trophy two days ago.

The 24-year old goalkeeper lives in North Kolkata. He had lost his father in his childhood. His father was a goalkeeper and having seen him playing the game in his locality Shankar got interested in goalkeeping when he became youth.

He has been fighting against poverty since his childhood. His mother Runa Roy works as maid servant in different houses in her locality and dreams every day that his son will bring her from financial misery.

Shankar, speaking over the phone from Goa on Friday said: “I needed one job to stop my mother from working in a different house throughout the day.

"But at the same time, I must have to deliver my best in the final. It has been a great opportunity for us to make Bengal champion after six long years."

Bengal coach Mridul Banerjee, however, praised his goalkeeper and said: “Shankar's determination is his key strength and I have a belief that he will also be at his best in the final against Goa."

Banerjee conducted a motivational class for his boys on Friday, March 24, evening where he drew a picture of Everest and inspired his boys by saying that they have only two kilometres left to reach the summit which meant the title.
