Bastian Schweinsteiger leaves Manchester United to join Chicago Fire

German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has mutually parted ways with Manchester United to join MLS side Chicago Fire.

Manchester, March 21: Iconic German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has officially left English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United to join MLS side Chicago Fire.

After spending almost 2 seasons at the club, the midfield maestro have finally decided to part ways and move to USA to spend the last few years of his career.

The 32-year-old midfielder was bought from Bayern Munich in 2015 by then manager Louis van Gaal. But injuries and inconsistent performance saw Bastian spending most of the times on the bench.

After Jose Mourinho took over last summer, Schweinsteiger's fate did not change as the manager made it clear that midfielder was not a part of his integral part.

Finally, on a mutual agreement, Bastain Schweinsteiger has decided to leave Old Trafford and join Chicago fire.

The official tweet from Manchester United read:

The official club statement read: "Bastian Schweinsteiger is to join Chicago Fire as a deal has been agreed with Manchester United and the player.

"The 32-year-old German midfielder's move to MLS is subject to a medical and a visa being obtained but Chicago are keen to finalise a swift transfer.

"Everybody at United would like to wish Bastian the very best of luck in his new career in the United States."

After leaving the club, the German left an emotion farewell message. It read: "I am sad to leave so many friends at Manchester United. But I am grateful to the club for allowing me the chance to take up the challenge at Chicago Fire.

"I have enjoyed working with the manager, the players and staff here and wish them all the best in the future.

"But I have to reserve special thanks to the United fans - whose support has been a very special part of my time in Manchester.

"I was delighted to be part of the squad that won the FA Cup for them last season and will always remember their energy and their passion.

"Now is the right time for me to start a new chapter in Chicago and I am looking forward to it."
