Bengaluru, May 26: CS Santosh was named the "Motor Sport Man of the Year" by The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) at their 2014 annual awards ceremony here last night (May 25).
Santosh, who earlier this year became the first Indian biker to take part and complete the Dakar Rally, was honoured for his achievement. All the champions from last year's events were awarded trophies by FMSCI. Dr Vijay Mallya was given the "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his contribution to motor sports in India.
Santosh won the "Motor Sport Man of the Year" award with the Raymond Gautam Singhania Rolling Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs. The award was presented by Raymond Group Managing Director Gautam Singhania, who himself is a car racer and had recently secured a historic double podium finish in Ferrari Challenge European Championship in Italy.
The "Motor Sport Star of the Future" award went to 17-year-old Arjun Maini, who has been showing consistently good performance in the European F4 and F3 circuits.
Speaking on the occasion, FMSCI President R Bharath Raj said, "We are happy and proud to be giving away these awards to the 2014 champions in Bangalore. We hope these champions go to international events and keep the Indian flag flying high."
"Motor sport activity is on the rise in India. We hope to get many other international events in India and also hope that the sport grows even more in the future," he added.
