FIFA World Cup 2014: Germany's rout of Brazil sets new records on Twitter

Belo Horizonte (Brazil), July 9: The annihilation of Brazil by Germany at last night's (July 8) FIFA World Cup 2014 semi-final has set new records on Twitter.

Home fans were shocked as Brazil were handed a 7-1 thrashing by Germany. The Europeans had the match in the bag by half-time with the scoreline reading 5-0. By the 29th minute of the match, Germany had raced to an unbelievable 4-0 lead.

According to Twitter, with 35.6 million tweets, this match was the 'most-discussed' single game ever on Twitter.

The data was made availabe by Twitter on its verified handle @TwitterData today (July 9) at 8.37 AM IST.

"With 35.6 million Tweets, #BRA v #GER is the most-discussed single sports game ever on Twitter. #WorldCup," Twitter Data revealed.

Also, another record was set on Twitter with TPM (Tweets Per Minute). According Twitter, after the 29th minute goal by Germany's Sami Khedira the TPM went up to 580,166 which is a new mark.
