Kolkata, March 19: India will hope for New Zealand to win their all matches in Group 2 stage so that they have a better chance of making the semifinals as the second team from the group.
India's win over Pakistan at the Eden Gardens on Saturday gave them two points but they were still placed third in the points table owing to an inferior runrate to Pakistan who also have two points in as many matches. [India make it 11-0 against Pakistan in all World Cups]
The other two teams, Australia and Bangladesh, have lost their opening matches against New Zealand and Pakistan, respectively.
Australia will play Bangladesh next while New Zealand will play Pakistan. India will hope the Kiwis to beat Pakistan or otherwise, they will come under a bigger stress to overtake Pakistan to qualify for the semifinals.
India next play Bangladesh on March 23
If New Zealand beat Pakistan, then India will have a decent chance of reaching the second spot by beating Bangladesh, a comparatively easier opponent, in their next match at Bengaluru on March 23.
If everything goes in India's favour, MS Dhoni's men will be able to make the right calculations against Australia in their last group match at Mohali on March 27.
