World Cup opening ceremony Live on TV today from 1PM IST

Melbourne, Feb 12: The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will officially be declared open today (February 12, Thursday) with two spectacular ceremonies lined up in Melbourne and Christchurch. (Photos and tweets from opening ceremonies)

The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on Star Sports in India from 1 PM IST. The actual action on the field begins on Saturday (February 14) with two matches - one each in Christchurch and Melbourne. New Zealand will face Sri Lanka in the opening game followed by Australia and England.

Tonight in both cities, opening ceremonies will see legends and current players at the tournament being involved. In Christchurch, the event will be held at North Hagley Park. In Melbourne, celebrations will be at Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Both are free for the public to attend. (List of commentators)

"To mark the return of the ICC Cricket World Cup to Australia and New Zealand for the first time in 23 years, opening events will take place in Melbourne and Christchurch on 12 February, 2015 - and here is how you can join the fun," ICC said.

"Both events will involve World Cup players and legends, cultural and music performances, spectacular fireworks display and much more. They will reflect the diversity and culture of the 14 nations competing in the tournament and include some icons of Australian and New Zealand entertainment," it added.

"We are delighted that Melburnians and visitors from all over the world will have a chance to attend this once-in-a-generation event at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl," Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events John Eren said.
