World Cup: BCCI announces Rs 50 lakh each for women's team players

BCCI today (July 22) announced cash awards for Indian women for reaching the final of the ICC Women's World Cup 2017 in England.

Bengaluru, July 22: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today (July 22) announced cash prize for the Indian women team for reaching the ICC Women's World Cup 2017 final.

India defeated Australia on Thursday (July 20) to enter the title round where they face hosts England tomorrow (July 23) at Lord's Cricket Ground.

The Mithali Raj-led side are in the final for only the second time in World Cup history. They had lost to Australia in 2005 edition to finish runners-up.

On Saturday, BCCI said it will reward each player Rs 50 lakh while the support staff will receive Rs 25 lakh.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced a cash prize of INR 50 lakhs for each member of Team India (Women) for their performance in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017. The support staff of Team India (Women) will receive INR 25 lakhs each," a media advisory from BCCI said.

Acting secretary of the Board, Amitabh Choudhary said, "The BCCI would like to announce a cash prize of INR 50 lakh to each member of the squad and INR 25 lakh to each member of the Support Staff. We wish them the best as they prepare for their biggest match tomorrow at the Lord's Cricket Ground."

Yesterday, BCCI had congratulated the team for defeating Australia in the semi-final. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday hails the performance of Team India (Women) after the team made it to the final of ICC Women's World Cup 2017," Choudhary had said.

"The BCCI would like to congratulate Ms. Mithali Raj and her team for showing consistency in their performances in the tournament so far. A special mention to all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur, who played a memorable knock (171* off 115 balls) and got the team through to the final.

"The BCCI would also like to wish the Indian team the very best for the Final match against England on Sunday, July 23rd," he added.
