WC 2015: UAE squad announced, 43-yr-old to lead

Abu Dhabi, Jan 10: The Emirates Cricket Board on Saturday announced the 15-men squad for the World Cup cricket to be played in Australia and New Zealand starting next month. [Full itinerary of 2015 World Cup]

The side, playing in their second World Cup after 1996, will be captained by Mohammed Tauqir while Khurram Khan will be his deputy. [Indian squad for WC 2015 announced]


Forty-three-year-old Tauqir, a UAE national, has served his country's cricket at domestic and international levels and has been a previous captain as well. Tauqir made his one-day debut in the 2004 Asia Cup against India in which he scored 55 off 73 balls and also took one wicket for 46 runs in 10 overs. Tauqir is a middle-order batsman and a right-arm offspinner.

UAE are placed with India, Pakistan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, West Indies and Ireland in Pool B in the 2015 World Cup.

The side, which is currently playing a tri-series with Afghanistan and Scotland in their home soil as preparations for the big tournament, will also play two warm-up matches against Australia and Afghanistan on February 11 and 13, respectively.
