Looking back at the UAE's performance in the World Cup in 1996, the only edition they had taken part in till date:
Led by Sultan Zarawani, the UAE beat the Netherlands by 7 wickets in the 1996 edition but lost heavily to all other test-playing nations, including South Africa (169 runs), Pakistan (9 wickets), New Zealand (109 runs) and England (8 wickets). Garry Kirsten's unbeaten 188 against the UAE is one of the big knocks registered in the tournament's history.
UAE skipper's taking on South African speedstar Allan Donald without a helmet and taking a blow in the head was one of the scariest moments of this World Cup.
