Bengaluru, Feb 23: Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar on Sunday blasted the Pakistani cricket team in a Pakistani television debate over its pathetic performance in a Pakistani television debate the ongoing World Cup Down Under.
Akhtar lashed out at Pakistani captain Misbah-ul-Haq and coach Waqar Younis and senior player Younis Khan in a show that also included former Pakistani national cricketers Azhar Mahmood and Mohammad Yousuf.
Akhtar, who was known for his fierce pace, said Waqar Younis is coaching the team for the third time despite not succeeding for even once. "What will he do better I the third time if he hasn't done well earlier," an angry Akhtar asked. He called for Younis's resignation.
Once people used to fear us, now they are mocking us, said an emotional Akhtar
The former speedstar was particularly merciless on skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and even called him a coward who only played for himself and not ready to lead the team. Mocking Misbah's broken English, Akhtar said the Pakistani skipper should stop presenting match summary in the post-match interviews and should answer questions related to it. He said the 40-plus captain kept his position as Waqar Younis's son and was fooling people for four years now.
"I beg him to spare Pakistan and go and score runs on easy wickets," a livid Akhtar said.
The former bowler also asked not to compare the current Pakistani team with the one of 1992 under Imran Khan that had lifted the trophy despite starting the tournament on a disastrous note. He said that team could turn around since it had a captain like Imran Khan but one should not expect the same from the current outfit for its captain is nowhere near the great all-rounder.
Pakistan lost their first two matches in World Cup 2015 against India and West Indies by 76 and 150 runs, respectively.
