WC 2015: Can Clarke do an Imran Khan at MCG today?

Melbourne, March 29: Australian captain Michael Clarke announced his retirement from one-day internationals on the eve of the final of the cricket World Cup 2015 against New Zealand. The final will be the last one-day game for the 33-year-old batsman who has scored 7,897 runs in 243 matches so far with eight hundreds.

Clarke, however, is not the first captain to quit the one-day version of the game after the World Cup final. In 1992, Pakistan captain Imran Khan too had quit the game altogether after his team defeated England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where Sunday's final was being played to lift its maiden World Cup title.

Pakistan had defeated Graham Gooch's side by 22 runs on March 25, 1992. Khan himself was the top scorer for his team in the final with 72 runs off 110 balls and also took the wicket of Richard Illingworth. []

Losing captain Gooch, however, went on to play for almost three more years after that final, which as his third in three decades.
