Mumbai, Jan 31: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has revealed that he can understand a bat's quality by just listening to the sound of it, it's as if the 'bat speaks' with him.
Waiter's advice helped me improve bat swing: Tendulkar
Speaking at the launch of 'Sachin by Spartan' range of sporting equipment and sportswear in Mumbai, the former India captain narrated an incident with West Indies cricketers Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard when he exhibited the duo this extraordinary talent of his.
"Dwayne Bravo and Pollard once asked me what I do by checking the sound of the bat with my finger. I told them the bat speaks with me," Tendulkar told media persons.
"They tried to bowl me a fast one. They brought me four top bats and asked me to check them. I checked the sound they made with my finger, the way I normally do and told them they were ok but not great. I placed them in an order of the best to the rest for them.
"They than gave me another bat saying it was a practice bat and asked me to check that one. I checked and told them their practice bat was actually the real bat. Both started laughing.
"It turned out I got the order right and picked the best bat correctly. They were just trying to test me," the batting maestro added further.
The cricketing legend, whose international career spanned over 24-years, has played record 200 Tests and 463 ODIs and accumulated over 34,000 runs.
He is the only batsman to have slammed 100 centuries (49 in ODIs and 51 in Tests), a world record which seems almost impossible to break.
