Virat Kohli's promise to Wasim Akram: 'I will score 2 hundreds in Australia series'

In the ongoing 5-match ODI series against Australia, India are trailing 0-2. The 3rd ODI is being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) today (January 17).

After being sent to bat by skipper Steve Smith, India posted 295/6 in 50 overs, thanks to vice-captain Kohli's 24th ODI ton. (Kohli to Faulkner: 'Have smashed you enough')

This was Kohli's third consecutive score of 50 or more in the series. He began with a 91 in Perth at the WACA ground. In the 2nd game, he scored 59. However, India lost both matches, failing to defend 300 plus scores.

After having missed a ton in Perth, Kohli promised Akram that he would get 2 three-figure marks in the remaining matches. And he has already scored one. The 4th ODI is in Canberra on January 20 and the final game on January 23 in Sydney.

Commentating on the 3rd ODI for "Star Sports" TV, Akram revealed in Melbourne what he had spoken to Kohli in Perth.

"I met him (Virat Kohli) at the WACA (Perth) after the game. I told him 'bad luck you missed a hundred.' He replied, 'Wasim bhai let me tell you, I will get 2 (hundreds) in the series," Akram said.

On way to a run-a-ball 117 on Sunday, Kohli became the fastest (in 161 innings) to score 7,000 runs in ODIs, eclipsing AB de Villiers' record. Kohli is also the quickest to register 24 ODI centuries.
