Another milestone: Virat Kohli slams maiden Test double hundred

North Sound (Antigua), July 21: Team India's run machine Virat Kohli smashed his maiden double hundred in Test against the West Indies at the Sir Viv Richards stadium here on Friday (July 22).

On the second day of the first Test match, Kohli also became the first Indian Test skipper to smash a double ton on a foreign soil. The explosive India batter consumed 281 deliveries to complete his double ton.

The Delhi-lad achieved this incredible milestone in his 43rd Test match. While Sachin Tendulkar scored his first Test double hundred in his 71st match.

Mansoor Ali Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni are the only batsmen to have hammered a double ton as Indian skippers.

Earlier, the 27-year-old came out to proceed his innings from the overnight total of 143 alongside Ravichandran Ashwin who was unbeaten at 22. Ashwin too completed his another Test fifty against West Indies, against whom the Chennai cricketer has made two Test centuries.

Earlier on Thursday, Kohli made his 12th Test century to guide India to an impressive 302/4 at stumps on the opening day of the first Test. Kohli's previous individual best was 169 that he scored against Australia in Australia. (Virat Kohli completes 3,000 Test runs)

Surpassing 197, Kohli also achieved his highest individual score in his first class career. Kohli looked in sublime form right from the first ball on the second day. No host bowler looked to trouble the Indian batter who continued scoring runs at ease on the flat pitch.

Earlier on Thurday, Kohli also achieved another milestone when he completed his 3,000 Test runs.
