The star batsman's tweet went viral with over 39,000 retweets and he was lauded for taking a stand for Anushka.

"If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity. This was long time coming. Shame on these people that hide and take a dig. And i dont need any respect for this post. Have some compassion and respect her. Think of how your sister or girlfriend or wife would feel if someone trolled them and very conveniently rubbished them in public. #nocompassion#nocommonsense," Kohli wrote further.

The Instagram post got 2,46,700 likes and 22,400 comments.

Virat and Anushka's relation is getting stronger with every passing day the two are seen making public appearances together.

While PM Narendra Modi's demonetisation tweet which hit a record 6.5 lakh tweets in 24 hours was the second best in the list.

According to TOI report, Maya Hari, Managing Director, Twitter Southeast Asia and India, said that Kohli's tweet was the ultimate winner because he stood out as a great role model for standing up for a woman and also for her safety and defence on the social platform.
