Colombo, Aug 6: Captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failed in India's 3-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka Board President's XI here on today (August 6). (Day 1 report)
On the opening day of the game on Thursday at R Premadasa Stadium, Kohli was dismissed for 8 and Rohit for 7 as India were invited to bat first by rival captain Lahiru Thirimanne.
India were given a good start by openers Shikhar Dhawan (62) and KL Rahul (43) but middle order collapse led to the team being reduced to 133/4 in the 39th over.
Dhawan and Rahul added 108 runs for the first wicket in 29.4 overs. The left-handed Dhawan hit 7 fours and Rahul had 6 hits to the fence.
Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara put India back on road to recovery as they took tea at 175/4 in 47 overs. So far, the duo has added 42 runs for the 5th wicket. Rahane remained unbeaten on 109 at close of play as India scored 314/6.
Kohli, batting at his usual number 4 position, was caught by Milinda Siriwardana off Kasun Rajitha for 8 runs from 9 deliveries. Number 3 batsman Rohit was bowled by Rajitha.
This is the only practice game for India ahead of the 1st Test in Galle, which starts on August 12.
