Skipper Kohli hit a career-best 235 as India defeated England by an innings and 36 runs in the 4th Test at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Monday. The hosts clinched the series 3-0 and regained the Anthony De Mello Trophy. (Kohli replies to Anderson's comments)
With his 3rd Test double ton in the year 2016, Kohli joined an elite list of batsmen to achieve this feat (3 or more double centuries in a calendar year).
Kohli, Don Bradman (in 1930), Ricky Ponting (2003) and Brendon McCullum (2014) have all scored 3 double hundreds in Test cricket in a calendar year. Clarke had 4 in the year 2012.
On the micro-blogging website Twitter, Clarke was asked by a user whether Kohli can equal his record with still 1 Test to play this year.
"I hope so. I love watching @imVKohli," replied Clarke.
India and England will play the 5th and final Test of the series in Chennai from December 16.
To another query by a Twitter user, Clarke said, "He (Kohli) is the best batsman in the world full stop."
Kohli is at 3rd position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for Test batsmen. He is the number 1 in T20 rankings. In ODIs, he is second.
