Bengaluru, April 29: A new star has arrived. That is what former players and fans were saying after watching 17-year-old Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) batsman Sarfaraz Khan bat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) here tonight in IPL 2015. (Who is Sarfaraz?)
Sarfaraz, who became the youngest player to feature in an IPL match during this season, showcased his talent at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday night against RR.
The right-hander's fearless batting earned high praises, including from his captain Virat Kohli, who folded his hands (namaste) and bowed as the youngster walked back to the pavilion after scoring 45 not out off 21 balls (6x4, 1x6).
Sarfaraz was bought by RCB in this year's players auction for Rs 50 lakh. He made his IPL debut on 22 April against Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru. And he did not set the stage ablaze on that day, getting out for 11. However, today was different.
Former India captain Ravi Shastri, who was commentating during the game, said he saw a "bit of Javed Miandad" in Sarfaraz, who comes from Mumbai.
Another commentator - Melanie Jones, the former Australian woman cricketer said Sarfaraz reminded her of Sri Lanka's batsman Aravinda de Silva.
Former cricketers and fans took to Twitter to hail the "great talent" from India. Here are some of the tweets
Counties ..This lad is the one if you can get him ..Sarfaraz Khan...a 17 yo lad with ambition .....far better than a 'retired' international
