Dindigul Dragons were off to a rousing start in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) as they won by 10 wickets against Madurai Super Giant.

Dindigul, July 26: Dindigul Dragons opened their account in the second season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) by deflating the Madurai Super Giant by 10 wickets at NPR College Ground, Natham, on Tuesday (July 25). Dindigul chased down the target of 118 in just 10.3 overs after bowling out the opposition.

Dindigul looked in a hurry to chase down the target as they sent pinch hitter Subramania Siva 84 (41) to open the innings along with the in-form Ganga Sridhar Raju.

Dindigul Dragons' players get into a huddle during the match

Siva punished all the Madurai bowlers, including the leg-spinner, Muruganandham. He found the gaps easily and wasn't afraid to go for the big shots.

He eventually completed half century in just 25 deliveries. Madurai had no answer to this carnage as Dindigul raced to 82 for no loss in the batting powerplay, a tournament record.

The onslaught only got worse for Madurai as Ganga Sridhar Raju joined the party as well. But it was Siva's evening as he finished the game without breaking a sweat.

Not once in his innings of 84 runs did he look uncomfortable or in trouble. Siva's previous highest score in TNPL was 23 and he surpassed that in style proving that the move to send him to open the innings was a great one.

Earlier, a revamped Madurai Super Giant, raced to 21 for no loss in two overs after choosing to bat. Both T Natarajan and his new ball partner, left-arm spinner MS Sanjay, got smashed before Sunny Kumar Singh (3 for 29) was introduced into the attack.

He got PS Sivaramakrishnan before picking up the wickets of Shijit Chandran and captain KB Arun Karthik. Dindigul Dragons were all over Madurai and the wickets just kept falling during regular intervals.

Though Kishen Kumar wasn't successful in picking up a wicket, his economical spell of 4-0-17-0 applied the brakes for Madurai making it tought for them to get going.

Sanjay (2 for 25) and M Ashwin (2 for 29) capitalised on the pressure created by the dry overs which then resulted in Madurai losing six wickets with just 74 runs on the board.

Suresh Kumar 39 (34) and L Vignesh 28 (16) managed to help Madurai reach 117 in 19.1 overs, but this was never going to be enough for a strong batting line-up.

Brief scores: Madurai Super Giant 117 all out in 19.1 overs (Suresh Kumar 39 (34b, 3x4, 1x6) Sunny Kumar Singh 3/29, T Natarajan 2/16) lost to Dindigul Dragons 120/0 in 10.3 overs (Surbramania Siva 84, 41b, 10x4, 6x6) by 10 wickets.
