Dindigul, July 27: Defending champions Albert Tuti Patriots made it two wins in two games in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2017 as they comprehensively beat the Ruby Trichy Warriors by 10 wickets at the NPR College Ground, Natham, on Wednesday (July 26).

Washington Sundar once again was the hero for Patriots, contributing with both ball and bat.

Patriots celebrate a wicket

After opting to bat first, Trichy were off to a flier with openers Bharat Shankar and Nilesh Subramanian going for their shots.

Sundar was welcomed with back-to-back boundaries by Shankar as Trichy scored 43 runs in the powerplay.

Just when Trichy started to switch gears, Tuti struck twice, dismissing the openers in consecutive overs. Aushik Srinivas drew first blood when he trapped Nilesh in front even as Akash Sumra yorked the dangerous-looking Bharath for 40 (32).

Too many single-digit scores from the middle-order baysnen didn't help Trichy's cause even as Tuti were aided by some great fielding.

The captain, Anand Subramanian, took a stunner, diving to his right to send back Adithya Ganesh while Kaushik Gandhi produced a direct hit to catch J Kousik short of the crease.

The skipper, B Indrajith (30), tried to hold fort at one end and even got a life when Sumra dropped him at mid-wicket off Washington.

Indrajith, however, couldn't capitalise on that chance as he got out on the very next ball when Sumra held on to one.

The Trichy team couldn't really get going as all six bowlers of Tuti picked wickets and did so at regular intervals. Trichy were eventually bowled out for 120 in 18.5 overs.

Tuti took off right from the word go with Sundar donning the role of aggressor. He and Gandhi were especially harsh on Murthy Prabhu as they smashed him all over the park. Tuti were scoring at nearly nine per over, and the Trichy bowlers didn't have an answer to the onslaught

Gandhi (72 not out) overtook Sundar as he reached his 4th TNPL fifty. Tuti were walking away with the game easily and didn't look in trouble. A couple of misfields by Trichy just added to their misery.

Sundar (49 not out) continued to shine both with the bat and ball and played a very good hand at the top, giving able support to Gandhi.

He rotated the strike well while punishing the bad deliveries. It was a walk in the park for Tuti as they raced to 100 in just 12.5 overs, without the loss of a wicket. They won with nearly five overs to spare.

Brief scores: Ruby Trichy Warriors 120 all out in 18.5 overs (Bharath Shankar 40, 32b, 4x4, 2x6; Baba Indrajith 30, 24b, 1x4, 2x6; Akash Sumra 2 for 11; Washington Sundar 2/22) lost to Albert TUTI Patriots 124/0 in 15.2 overs (Kaushik Gandhi 72 not out, 55b, 9x4, 1x6; Washington Sundar 49 not out, 38b, 5x4, 1x6) by 10 wickets.
