Both teams, competing in the tri-series ODI today at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), were coming off after an intense four-Test series which was won by the home team 2-0. There was no shortage of altercation between players during the Test rubber. Now it has resurfaced. (Kohli in verbal barrage)
India captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to take first strike in good batting conditions. After losing 3 quick wickets, India were put back on track with opener Rohit dominating the Australian attack.
All seemed quiet till the final ball of the 23rd over when things began to heat up. (Kohli-Johnson sledging)
Rohit had just reached his half century with a big six off James Faulkner and Warner decided to offer some lip service to upset the well-settled Mumbai batsman. (Sledging is back)
On the final delivery of the 23rd over, bowled by Faulkner, Warner threw the ball at the stumps as Rohit moved out of the crease after playing a shot. The ball went through Rohit's bat and legs and wicketkeeper Brad Haddin failed to collect. (Johnson's throw hits Kohli)
Following this, Rohit and Suresh Raina stole a single, which looked to have made Warner angry. Maybe the Australian thought the ball hit Rohit's body and he should not have taken a run.
Soon after the completion of the over, Warner was seen saying few words to Rohit and Raina intervened. The Indian too did not hold back and returned the favour.
Later it took the umpires John Ward, Kumar Dharmasena and captain George Bailey to cool things down. However, that did not end as it continued in the next over before the matter was settled all together. But it could return.
