From Kohli's dominance to Dhoni's resurgence: 6 reasons why Team India won Asia Cup

By Avinash

New Delhi, Mar 7: With a convincing victory against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla stadium, Team India registered its seventh T20 win in a row.

Men In Blue's performance in Asia Cup T20 tournament and emphatic victory against home side Bangladesh in the final is bound boost the team's morale ahead of ICC World T20, beginning in two days' time.

Team India has won its 6th Asia Cup title.

Throughout the Asia MS Dhoni & Co has been in sublime form and remained unbeaten the tournament.

Even skipper MS Dhoni is happy with the fact that the team is settled and in perfect shape before important ICC World T20.

"We have 13-14 players they are all match-winners, that is the beauty of the side, everyone is taking responsibility to finishing the game. Important is to get settled combination. That's what we have. We are on track for T20 World Cup," he told media persons.

If one talks about the positives from this tournmanent for Team India, which is getting stronger with every tournament, then there are definitely a few.

Team's most lethal weapons Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shikar Dhawan are exploding, at will, and rising up to the ocassions, while the experienced battery of Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are back in form.

Team's pace attack has never been better, especially in T20 format, after Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah were inducted into the side. R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are match winners for the side and have proved their worth time and again.

Here are 6 takeaways from the Asia Cup for the Team India, numero uno in ICC T20 rankings:

1. Top order is firing:

India's opening batting duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan may have failed in forging a successful partnership together in the recently concluded tournament, but assured victory for the side with match-winning individual performances.

Opening combination of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma is doing wonders.

If Rohit Sharma (83) fired against Bangladesh in the opening game, his partner Shikhar Dhawan (60) had reserved his best for the finals against the same opponent.

Team would be hoping more such match-winning performances in the upcoming World T20, which will be taking place in home conditions.

2. Virat Kohli the consistent performer:

Virat Kohli is one of the most lethal weapons of this side and who has been Team's 'man-to-go' in every situation. His ability to absorb pressure, when the chips are down, has been commendable and the main reason for Team India's success in the T20 performance. Virat's innings against Pakistan, when the team was struggling at 20/3 and Mohammed Amir was looking unplayable.

Virat Kohli has been 'Mr Consistent'

As Team India go unbeaten in the World T20, all eyes will once again would be on Team India's 'Mr Consistent' and fans would be hoping more match winning knocks from his bat.

3. Big-hitters MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh are back in form:

If one thing every Team India fan wanted before the start of World T20, it was watch most experienced match-winners MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh regain their lost form. As runs exploded from their bats in the Asia Cup, both these veterans have perhaps raised the hopes of India lifting its second World T20 trophy.

Both Dhoni and Yuvraj played some of their trademark shots in the tournament and would have certainly alarmed the bowlers arriving in India to play in World T20.

4. Nehra-Bumrah make bowling lethal:

Veteran Ashish Nehra and his deputy youngster Jasprit Bumrah have continued their good performance with the ball. Their performance through out Asia Cup has been phenomenal and their ability to give breakthroughs with the new ball have helped the side dominate India.

Ashish Nehra is in a form of his lifetime.

Similar performances would be expected from these two during World T20 as they play against some better teams than those they bowled against in Asia Cup.

5. 'Swinger' Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back in form:

Pacer Bhuvneshawar Kumar got a chance in only one match in the Asia Cup i.e. against UAE but the way the UP lad bowled certainly would have given a lot of confidence to him.

His swinging deliveries and the amount of pace he generated would have brought a huge relief for the skipper for now, he can look up to Bhuvneshwar whenever the needs a swing bowler or Nehra/Bumrah are not match fit.

6. Old MS Dhoni is back:

Throughout this tournament, Team India dominated in every department of the game and the credit for the same goes to skipper MS Dhoni's captaincy. The skipper is confident over his bowlers and his strategies are once again working for the side.

'Captain Cool' was also seen enjoying the matches which shows how confident the Indian skipper is. MS Dhoni has lost just 1 T20 game out of 12 limited overs game he has led his side in this year. This clearly shows old MS Dhoni is back to winning terms.
