Melbourne, July 26: Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has left everyone surprised with his pick of the toughest bowler he kept to during his illustrious international career.

Gilchrist did duty behind the stumps to some of the best bowlers in the world. He had the tough task of keeping wickets to Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Brett Lee and others. However, according to him, they were all too easy.

For the left-hander, the toughest bowler to keep wickets to was part-time spinner Michael Bevan. Gilchrist revealed this to Cricket Australia's (CA) website on Tuesday (July 25).

"Bevo's (Bevan) not renowned for his bowling," Gilchrist told CA's "The Unplayable Podcast".

He continued, "Obviously his batting, he was so masterful in that, but he did contribute with some handy wickets at times.

"The left-arm leggie, fast action, very difficult to pick out of the hand. That's why it was so challenging.

"And Bevo will concede himself he didn't have the greatest control so whilst he could land it right on a sixpence he could also throw them far and wide too, so it was always a challenge."

Left-hander Bevan was a master of run chases, taking Australia home from several tough situations in One Day Internationals. With his part-time spin, he took 29 Test (18 matches), and 36 ODI wickets (232 games).

He averaged over 53 with the bat in ODIs, scoring 6,912 runs with 6 hundreds and 46 fifties. He managed only 785 runs in Tests with 91 as highest.
