Bengaluru, May 29: After a wait of six long years, the cash-rich Indian Premier League got a new champion in Sunrisers Hyderabad as the David Warner-led side defeated favourites Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs at Chinnaswamy Stadium, here, on Sunday night.
Chasing a target of 209, Virat Kohli-led RCB managed to get 200 runs in the limited 20 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Batting first, Sunrisers skipper David Warner led from the front and played a captain's innings by scoring 69 off deliveries. Thanks to Yuvraj Singh's 38 off 23 and Ben Cutting's 39* off 15 deliveries Sunrisers managed to set a daunting total for the hosts RCB.
No sooner than Sunrisers won the match, Twitter started congratulating David Warner and heaped praise upon his captaincy skills throughout the tournament.
Here is how cricket enthusiasts, experts and cricketers reacted on Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL victory:
Brilliant IPL final! Well played SRH - deserving winners. Great effort RCB - so near, yet so far.— Jayant Sinha (@jayantsinha) May 29, 2016
SRH it is, and they deserved this. Bowled superbly throughout the tournament — backed by their one-man batting army.— Prem Panicker (@prempanicker) May 29, 2016
Superb defence by Hyderabad. Not many gave them a chance to win the title when season began. What a journey. Well done Team Warner!— Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) May 29, 2016
What a fine ltd overs bowler @BhuviOfficial has become. Added couple yards of pace, fine yorker and the movement is back. Real India asset— Shekhar Gupta (@ShekharGupta) May 29, 2016
What a great game of cricket... When you hit 200 and lose a final. That's how good SRH are! Bhuvi and fizz... Legends. Hard luck RCB. #IPL— Siddharth (@Actor_Siddharth) May 29, 2016
Moral of the story: IPL maybe a “batsman’s game”, but you need a great bowling unit to win it.— Prem Panicker (@prempanicker) May 29, 2016
