On Tuesday, India defeated Sri Lanka by 117 runs to win the 3-Test series 2-1. And Mishra played a big part in this success along with lead spinner - R Ashwin (17 wickets), who won the Man-of-the-series award.
The 32-year-old Mishra was picked for Sri Lanka tour as the 3rd spinner after Ashwin and veteran Harbhajan Singh. Mishra, before this series, had last played a Test in August 2011 against England at The Oval (Londona).
All 3 - Mishra, Ashwin and Harbhajan played in the opening Test in Galle where India lost. Mishra was retained for the next 2 Tests while Harbhajan was dropped. Mishra justified his selection as he weaved his magic with the ball and also excelled with the willow.
He finished the series with 15 wickets (best - 4/43) and 157 runs (1 half century), thus becoming the first Indian to achieve these numbers in a 3-Test rubber.
"Amit Mishra (157 runs and 15 wickets) is the first Indian to score 150+ runs and claim 15 wkts in a 3 match Test series," cricket statistician Mohandas Menon wrote on his Twitter page today.
Speaking after the match, Mishra praised captain Virat Kohli for always being "positive". The spinner expressed happiness that he could do well after returning to the side.
