Scoring 450-470 will be next target in ODI cricket: Yuvraj Singh

Playing their first international cricket match on American soil, Team India almost created history of chasing the highest total in a T20I match when the Men In Blue lost the match by just 1 run.

A whopping 489 runs were scored by both the sides in 40 overs, which is unprecedented. It turned out to be the highest ever aggregate in a T20 match.

The previous best was 469-runs in an IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, back in 2010. The third highest total was 467 runs scored between West Indies and South Africa in 2015. (Twitterati pity Indian bowlers)

Meanwhile on Aug 30, England broke Sri Lanka's previous record of 443/9 by scoring 444/3 in the 50 over match against Pakistan at Trent Bridge. It was also the highest ODI total in a match between two Test nations, topping South Africa's 439 for two against the West Indies at Johannesburg last year. (WI set world record)

Veteran India cricketer Yuvraj Singh feels that the latest incidents of batting assaults in cricket is set to change the trend in limited overs' game and 400+ scores in 50 over game are going to be a common phenomena. (Dhoni sets world record)

Yuvraj was quoted by India Today as saying, "The five-fielders in the circle rule is a bit tough for bowlers. 444 is a huge score. England batsmen were devastating. The next target will be 450-470 in one day cricket."

According to the left-handed India batter the latest changes introduced into the game such as field restrictions and the concept of two new balls are responsible for high scoring matches. (Dhoni is Captain Cool, Virat is aggressive, don't compare them)

"The quality of bowlers hasn't gone down and the pitches used to be like this earlier too. Two new balls, and the fielding restrictions have changed the game. The ball continues to come onto the bat well, it doesn't get old. Part-timers have it tough especially now. The ball doesn't swing much, doesn't reverse much now. So scores will continue to rise due to such rules," Yuvraj further added.

According to the southpaw all-rounder, the skill of batsmen has gone higher and higher eversince inception of T20 format. Batsmen have started dominating the bowler from the very first ball and bowlers have to try very hard to adjust to conditions.

Yuvraj also opined that the mindset of chasing targets has changed over the last few years. If batsmen get used to chasing 240-250 in T20s, then surely they can chase down 400 runs in ODIs as well. Earlier, 300 was considered safe but now nothing is a safe score in the limited overs.
