Uthappa hit a magnificent 148 against Delhi on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Group A match at KSCA Stadium in Hubballi to draw level with Dravid.
With his 17th hundred in Ranji Trophy, Uthappa has drawn level with Dravid. Only Brijesh Patel has more centuries - 26 than the duo for Karnataka in India's premier first-class tournament.
The right-handed Uthappa has been in roaring form in the last 3 innings. He hit 160 against Rajasthan and then followed that with 148 versus Odisha and yesterday he completed a hat-trick of tons.
The 30-year-old Uthappa is the first Karnataka batsman to hit 3 consecutive hundreds in the same Ranji Trophy season. Also, he matched Dravid and Patel with this feat.
Patel had constructed scores of 100 (against Uttar Pradesh, 1977/78), 100 (Goa, 1978/79) and 126 (Andhra, 1978/79) while Dravid had hit 134 (Bengal, 1990/91), 126 (Goa, 1991/92) and 128 (Kerala, 1991/92).
Former India captain Dravid took just 48 Ranji Trophy matches to reach 17-ton milestone while Uthappa is playing in his 90th game.
Thanks to Uthappa's century and opener Mayank Agarwal's 118, Karnataka posted 358/3 in 90 overs on the 1st day of the 4-day game.
