New Delhi, July 26: The appointment of India's head coach saga finally came to an end after the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) picked former team director Ravi Shastri for the coveted job.
Reports of rift between India skipper Virat Kohli and former coach Anil Kumble badly tarnished the image of the Indian cricket.
Member of the BCCI appointed CAC, Sourav Ganguly has finally revealed that Shastri was the ultimate choice of skipper Kohli and the latter has got what he wanted.
Making the details public, former India captain, was quoted by reports as saying, "That's what Virat Kohli wanted. He'd be happy to have Ravi (Shastri) with him. Wish them all the best. They have two years ahead of them before the World Cup and hope they have a good one."
Shastri has been named the coach of the Indian side till 2019 World Cup.
Virender Sehwag, Dodda Ganesh, Venkatesh Prasad, Lalchand Rajput and Australian Tom Moody applied for the job and were contention for post. Finally, the former India captain was handed over the baton of the Indian side.
Earlier, former India pacer Zaheer Khan were appointed as the bowling consultant while India A and Under 19 coach Rahul Dravid named the batting consultant for overseas tours. But the BCCI later clarified that no decision was taken about them.
