Mumbai, July 19: Ravi Shastri the new head coach of Indian cricket team said on Wednesday (July 19) that he did not carry any baggage of past and players needed to be given all the credit.
"I don't come with any baggage. I have matured over the last couple of weeks. Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble will come and go. All credit to the players," Shastri said during the pre-departure press conference. Indian team will leave for Sri Lanka on Wednesday (July 19) for a full-fledged series, comprising three Tests, five ODIs and a T20.
On the controversy surrounding the selection of support staff, the Mumbaikar said: "When you play the game you want your mind will be clear. That happens with good support staff. My job is to do the same thing for every player."
"Bharat Arun has a track record. 15 years of coaching is outstanding. He knows these boys better than I do. In the last World Cup we took 77 wickets," said Shastri.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli underlined the importance of communication. "Understanding and communication is important. It is for every relationship to be successful. We two have worked together in the past, so there will be no problem in adjusting. There have been lot of speculation. My job is to perform to the best of my abilities," said Kohli.
